The Faculdades EST has been planning the implementation of a Distance Education Program since 2003, with the creation of the Distance Education Commission. Through consultation with the various sectors of the institution, the recognition of the Distance Education modality as well as the need for its implementation was verified as a way of adapting to the new times and of responding to the demands. Based on this observation, the commission worked on the elaboration of a training project for the teaching and administrative teams to learn how to work with the new ICTs and a new concept of education. The commission also worked on the composition of a technological and physical infrastructure.
In 2005, with the hiring of a full time specialist in Distance Education, the Distance Education Coordinating team was created, which is responsible for the planning, organization and execution of activities in the Distance Education modality in the Faculdades EST.
Since 2006, the institution offers open courses and extension course via Distance Education, as well as offering disciplines in a semi-classroom mode, according to the MEC bylaw nº 4.059/04. The Moodle virtual learning environment is also used as support for the classroom disciplines of the bachelor programs in theology, and music therapy and for the professional master’s program of the curricular integralization program.
