The Faculdades EST has as its mission the promotion of research with academic excellence aiming at socializing it and at providing training for professionals whose work is based on the principles of ethics, solidarity and human dignity.

The Faculdades EST is a reference in theological research in Brazil and in Latin America, with its postgraduate program evaluated for the fourth consecutive triennial as a program of international excellence by CAPES. It has research groups which involve professors, undergraduate and postgraduate students
The research projects are tied to the research groups and to the postgraduate program and are supported with grants from the institution itself (PEIC - Projeto Faculdades EST de Iniciação Científica [Faculdades EST Project of Scientific Initiation]) and from public organizations which foment research (FAPERGS, CNPq and CAPES). Research projects are also developed which are supported by churches, ecclesiastical organizations and national and international research institutions.

The Faculdades EST develops research projects with other Higher Learning Institutions (IEC) in the country and outside the country, fomenting the participations of professors and students in scientific events and national and international forums, seeking integration with other academic institutions.
