Entrance

The selection process for enrolling in the Academic Doctoral Program in Theology takes place through the Selection Exam which occurs every semester. The period of registration for the exam will be from September 15th to October 15th of 2017. The tests will take place on November 6th and 7th of 2017.

GENERAL PROPOSAL OF THE PPG-EST
Latin American Theology : Studies the theological thought and the religious and educational practices in various contexts of Latin America.



1 AREA OF CONCENTRATION: TRADITIONS AND SACRED WRITINGS – TES

Aims at biblical research, mainly of the Old and New Testaments and of cognate literature through scientific instruments of textual and historical criticism, and of other related sciences from the perspective and observable needs in the Latin American context.

 

1.1 RESEARCH LINES

1.1.1 Studies of Biblical Text and Context

Studies the biblical texts and their theological tendencies in their multiple contexts (social, political, cultural and religious).

 

1.1.2 Biblical Hermeneutics and Theology

Studies the history of the interpretation of biblical texts and the various theological approaches, methodologies and perspectives of Bible reading, as well as its reception in the multiple contexts of current times.

2 AREA OF CONCENTRATION: HISTORY OF THEOLOGIES AND RELIGIONS - TH

Historical study of religious ideas and doctrines, spiritualities, traditions of wisdom [(intellectual history)], of its expression(s) or social-cultural rootedness, analysis of the religious field.

It investigates in a historical perspective, Christianity in Latin American social, cultural and religious contexts.

3 AREA OF CONCENTRATION: FUNDAMENTAL SYSTEMATIC THEOLOGY - TS

It occupies itself with the grounding of theology and its coherent (dogmatic) development; it analyzes the behavior of the Christian person and of the Christian churches and their belonging at an individual , personal and social level in the various fields (ethics); develops a theology of the mission of the church in a dialogical key; reflects on and promotes ecumenism and inter-religious dialog; situates theology in contemporary society and reflects on its localization within it, on a local and global level; develops a theological reflection in a philosophical key and specifically, develops a philosophy of religion.

Examines the current theological proposals in Latin America with special attention to the ecclesiological, social, ethical and ecumenical dimensions.

4 AREA OF CONCENTRATION: PRACTICAL THEOLOGY TP

Aims at promoting study and research with the goal of capacitating theologians and other professionals in the various fields of religious praxis in the contemporary world. The area develops interdisciplinary research in dialog with other areas such as education, communication, music, psychology, sociology, dealing with themes such as counseling, chaplaincy, phenomenology, homiletics and liturgy, management of communities of faith, religious education, social praxis and care giving, art and esthetics, studies of media, culture and religious expressions in the Latin American context.

  

4. 1 RESEARCH LINES 

4.1.1 Theological praxis and spirituality in communities of faith and society

Provides opportunity for reflection and research about themes of Practical Theology in interface with psychology, sociology, anthropology and communication. Its goal is to study religious, ecclesial and social theories and practices, in dialog with the Christian tradition in the Latin American context.

 

4.1.2 The Religious Phenomenon and Educational Praxis in Latin America

It researches the relation between the religious phenomenon and education in its multiple forms and interfaces, comprehending the analysis of the policies, processes and educational practices, religious education and Christian education in an interdisciplinary focus in the Latin American context.

Coordination of the course


Coordenação

Coordinator: Prof. Dr. Júlio Cézar Adam graduated in Theology from the Escola Superior de Teologia (Faculdades EST), São Leopoldo/RS (1996) and did his doctorate in Theology at the University of Hamburg, Germany (2004). He works as professor of Practical Theology, liturgy, homiletics, ministries, edification of congregations and spirituality at the Faculdades EST; he has been coordinator of the PPG of the Faculdades EST since 2013; He coordinates the research group (CNPq) “Christian worship, music and media in contemporaneity.”

He is a research fellow of the CAPES/Humboldt (Experienced Researcher) at the University of Hamburg/Germany, from 2015-2018). He has researched in the area of Practical Theology, more specifically in area of Christian worship, liturgy and homiletics, ministry and edification of congregations, religious education, spirituality and themes related to media, pop culture (lived Religion), behavior and youth religiosity in current times.
